As organisations start reporting on topics such as sustainability alongside their financial statements, a question at many of these organisations may be which department could be tasked with the broader reporting responsibility? In many organisations, the task may fall, at least initially, on the financial reporting team that was historically responsible only for reporting on financial information in the financial statements. An obvious benefit of this approach is that the financial reporting team already understands the principles of reporting useful information to users. Furthermore, this may allow for easier integration of financial and other information to enhance the story that users are told.
